There are multiple variables that must be considered, the first being expectations, followed by the consequences when those expectations are not met. Where does the student and the expectations meet, that requires getting to know where the student is, and the environment they live in and come from, this can't be emphasized enough. Relating these strategies to Hattie's rankings, they would fall in the top tier of effective classroom instructional strategies. We will discuss the Jigsaw Method of Cooperative Learning, Pass for class discussion, as well as some other quick peer discussion techniques that require little prep work, but have high impact on student learning.

This 40-minute session will guide educators through the key characteristics that distinguish truly gifted learners from their bright peers. Participants will explore common myths, review research-based identification practices, and examine real-world student profiles to sharpen their ability to recognize gifted potential across diverse populations. Emphasis will be placed on equitable identification strategies, including how to look beyond grades and behavior to uncover advanced cognitive abilities. Attendees will leave with practical tools and resources to support more accurate, inclusive gifted identification in their schools.
